What  is your first thought when you think of essential oil‘s? My first thought is, “Essential Huh”.  What do essential oils do? And how do they affect us?
Well, throughout my research, I found that essential oils are often used in aromatherapy. Aromatherapy is a form of alternative medicine that employs plant extracts to support health and well-being.  When you really think about this, most health problems come from stress. Our brain works as a wondrous organ that controls everything that happens in our body. so, it is very important for us to control the amount of stress that comes in our life and  pay close attention to our thoughts.
In the last several years, I have been practicing meditation and affirmations. Which has changed my life tremendously.  Throughout that process I came across essential oils. The most intriguing part, is that they assist in the process of lowering stress and anxiety.
Inhaling aromas from essential oils can stimulate areas of your limbic system, which is part of your brain. The limbic system plays a part in emotions, behaviors, sense of smell and long-term memory. Which is why most people have a  déjà vu moment when they come across certain Scents.  I distinctly remember the scent of the college campus I was on in London England, and every blue moon that smell in the air will come and will take me back to that moment. Which was an amazing moment.  Even one of my clients called me and told me that when they smell the Egyptian amber candle scent, it brings them to a happy memory.
The limbic system also plays a role in controlling several unconscious psychological functions, such as breathing, heart rate and blood pressure. Which also had me intrigued because when you are stressed or anxious, your heart rate changes your breathing changes even the way you think.
  When you think of certain essential oils such as; peppermint which helps boost your energy and aids in  digestion. So why not  drink it as a tea or light a candle or oil with this scent.  Those mornings when you are dragging a bit and not wanting to move about, but you have a lot to do. This is a good way to help heal that one moment and that emotion, by saying “I need energy right now so, I am going to take some mint this morning or light a candle with a eucalyptus or mint scent”. Take Control of your Moments!
Lavender is another essential oil that is used to relieve stress and to relax you. This is good for nighttime bedroom and baths. This essential oil is almost guaranteed to help you sleep well. Some people even believe that it can be a spiritual cleansing.  Sandalwood even helps to calm nerves and helps with focus.
Overall , essential oils help to reduce stress, boost your mood, and even relieve pain from headaches and migraines. There are so many out there.  I see a win-win here!
